5 journalists attacked in Manikganj, police arrest 1
A written complaint was lodged with the police regarding the incident
Five journalists were attacked in Manikganj's Ghior upazila on Sunday while on duty, and police arrested a man named Abdul Kuddus from the spot for being involved in the incident.
According to the police and local sources, the night guard of Bara Kushtia Government Primary School in Ghior upazila, Md Zafar, was accused of drug trafficking and scandal involving women. Local villagers organised a human chain on Sunday in support of this accusation.
At around 11.30am, the Manikganj correspondent of The Daily Star Jahangir Alam Biswas, district correspondent of Bangla Vision Akram Hossain, district correspondent of Somoy TV Yusuf Ali, and two other journalists went to cover the event at the school ground.
Right about then, Reza Mondol, expelled general secretary of the local Paila union Juba League suddenly stormed the area with Kuddus Mandal, vice-president of the union Awami League and three or four other unidentified people and tried to snatch the cameras of the journalists.
The journalist victims were also physically assaulted.
Upon receiving the news, the police reached the spot at around 12 noon and arrested Kuddus while the rest of the perpetrators managed to flee the spot.
Journalist Jahangir Alam Biswas later lodged a written complaint with the police regarding the incident.
The officer in charge (OC) of Ghior police station Ashraful Alam confirmed the arrest of Kuddus for being involved in the attack on the journalists and added that the case was under development.
