Three people were detained tonight (11 October) for stabbing four people in Old Dhaka's Tantibazar puja mandap area.
The detainees are Akash, 23, Hridoy, 23, and Jibon, 19.
Confirming the matter, Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Enamul Hasan said, "At around 8pm, some men tried to snatch a woman's chain from her neck. When locals intervened, the muggers stabbed and injured four individuals."
The officer also said a knife was seized from their possession.
During the incident, the attackers allegedly tossed explosives toward the mandap.
The OC said the attackers did throw a bottle, but it did not explode, and there was no damage.
Asked what was in the bottle, the officer said, "Since it did not explode, it could have been thrown to intimidate. However, it appears to contain liquid."
Later, the injured Jhunty, Md Sagar, Md Khokon, and Bittu were admitted to the nearby Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital.
Contacted, Deputy Police Commissioner of Lalbagh Division Md Jasim said following the incident and reports of explosives being thrown at the Tantibazar puja mandap, police have beefed up security measures in the area.
