Three people have been allegedly beaten for testifying to the Anti-Corruption Commission against the officer-in-charge of Kutubdia police station in Cox's Bazar.

The incident took place in front of the Upazila Health Complex at 7pm Saturday. The injured are Delowar, Ruhul Amin and Mofiz Alam.

Confirming the matter ACC's Deputy Assistant director (Chattogram zone) Zafar Sadek Shiblee said, "A team of ACC yesterday detained Shaheed Uddin Choton, union parishad (UP) chairman of Boroghop area, and Belal in this connection."

Injured Ruhul Amin said, "We were attacked by 10-12 miscreants led by the UP chairman while returning from the Kutubdia upazila sadar after testifying against the OC Didarul Ferdous."

On August 2018, Sramik League leader Monowarul Islam Mukul filed a case with ACC accusing the OC for extorting money by keeping people in police custody and embezzling money.

After filing of the writ with High Court, the ACC team came to the upazila and started investigation.

Monowarul said, "Upazila Awami League President Aurangzeb Matobbar, Awami League President of Koiarbil union Azamgir Matobbar and the UP Chairman made OC their associate in their misdeeds and they attacked the witnesses yesterday evening."

They even created obstacle while the victims went at the Health Complex for medical treatment, he claimed.

Sharif Uddin, ACC's deputy assistant director (Chattogram zone), said, "Sramik League leader Monowarul Islam Mukul filed a writ petition with the High Court against the OC demanding investigation into his wrong activities.

"Later, a 4-member team came to the upazila to investigate the allegation on Saturday morning. The team have talked to victims and many of them testified against the OC," Sharif Uddin added.

Process of filing a case in this regard is underway, said he.

However, the OC refused his involvement in the attack. The reporter could not reach the accused people for their comments.
