Some 22 people, including 10 women and two children, have been rescued before being trafficked to India along the Satkhira border on early Thursday.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station Officer in Charge (OC) MD Asadujjaman said acting on tip-off, they conducted a drive at the house of Mokhlesur Rahman at Kuliadanga village of Banshdoha Union and rescued the 22.
Mokhlesur Rahman and his wife Nasima Khatun brought the rescuees to the house to send them to India illegally. The couple took around Tk 20,000 from each of them with the promise of arranging jobs for them in India.
However, police detained Nasima from the house, the OC said, adding that further steps will be taken as per law.
