2 arrested for cheating with fake advertisements through social media

The Cyber Crime Investigation Division of Counter-Terrorism Unit arrested Md Shaheen Sarkar, 35 and Md Mizanur Rahman, 38 from Savar in Dhaka on Monday evening for posting fake job advertisements on social media, collecting money via bKash from freedom fighters under false pretences, and sending fake documents.
The police have seized Facebook IDs used in the racket, the signature and seal of the secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War, employment approval letter, with fake signature, for several companies, gazettes listing names of freedom fighters and primary teachers, mobile phones and five SIM cards.
The accused used social media to mislead netizens and extort money with false promises of job advertisements, employment offers in various ministries, and even inclusion in the revised list of freedom fighters.
The City-Cyber Crime Investigation Department identified and arrested the accused with special technical assistance.
During the preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to their crime and said they have been committing this fraud for the last five years.
The police are trying to arrest any fugitive accomplices.
A case was filed against the fraudsters at the capital's Sabujbagh Police Station last Saturday.
The accused have been handed over to the court, applying for seven days of remand.
