1,600kg shark pups, dolphin calves seized in Bhola

The Forest Department and the Coast Guard have seized around 1,600kg of dolphin calves and shark pups in a drive conducted on Thursday morning in Bhola.

They also detained the smuggler Md Anis, a resident of Pekua upazila of Cox's Bazar. 

Bhola Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Md Kamal Hossain led the drive. He sentenced the smuggler to one-month imprisonment. 

The smuggler was trying to smuggle the dolphin calves and shark pups from the Elisha Ferry Ghat area of Bhola when the law enforcers stepped in. 

The authority later buried the dolphin calves and shark pups.

Range Officer of the Forest Department (Bhola) Md Kamrul Islam told The Business Standard, "We have seized shark pups and dolphin calves worth around Tk5 lakh in a drive."
