Writ seeks closure of educational institutions, ports
A Supreme Court lawyer on Sunday filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking directives on the government to close all educational institutions in the wake of the detection of the novel coronavirus in the country.
The writ also prayed to the court to order the authorities concerned to close all land, sea and airports across the country to prevent the spread of the disease.
Lawyer Yunus Ali Akand filed the petition.
Home secretary, health secretary, education secretary and foreign secretary are the respondents in the writ petition.
"The hearing of the writ petition will be held in front of a vacation bench on Monday," Yunus Ali said.
"Different countries across the globe have closed educational institutes to curb the spread of the deadly virus. They have closed their ports. I filed the writ because none of the precautions has yet been taken in our country," he added.
