Payel was injured badly as bus door did not open properly
A Dhaka court has sentenced three accused, including driver of a Hanif Paribahan bus, to death for killing North South University student Saidur Rahman Payel, Somoy TV reports.
The death row convicts are- bus driver Jamal Hossain, his helper Foysal Hossain and supervisor Jonny.
According to case statement, Payel was returning to Dhaka from Chattogram on a Hanif Paribahan bus with friends on 21 July, 2018.
The bus got stuck in a jam in the Munshiganj area around 2am.
Payel disembarked from the bus to relieve himself. When traffic eased, he tried to get board on the bus, but he could not. Payel was injured badly as bus door did not open properly.
Instead of taking him back to the bus, the bus staff threw him in a canal. Afterwards, they told Payel's friends that he got down from the bus midway.
Later, police recovered the decomposed body of Payel from Munshiganj's Gazaria upazila on 26 July same year.
Payel's family filed a general diary with Naranganj port police station regarding the matter.
Jonny confessed to his involvement in the killing after his arrest from Motijheel. Police later arrested bus driver Jamal and helper Faisal from Arambagh in the capital.
