A Dhaka court on Sunday sent three policemen to jail in a case for yaba trafficking.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order when Paritosh Chandra, investigation officer at Uttara East Police Station, presented them before the court. The court sent them to jail for conducting further investigation into the case.
The three policemen are: Masud Ahmed Miazi, assistant sub-inspector at the Gulshan Police Station, and Prashanto Mondol and Jahangir Alam from the Armed Police Battalion-1.
Earlier on Saturday, two other police officers, Md Rony Mollah and Md Shariful Islam, were sent to jail in the same case.
On September 16, a Dhaka court placed the five policemen on a five-day remand in the case. According to the case statement, four policemen seized 522 yaba tablets while they were on duty in Gulshan-Gudaraghat area on September 11.
Subsequently, the policemen planned to sell the tablets in their possession, instead of submitting the narcotics to the concerned authorities.
Abu Zafor, a sub-inspector at the Armed Police Battalion-1, informed the concerned authority, as he found Constable Prashanto and another accused police officer preparing yaba in a packet for sale. Police arrested the two officers; afterwards, they arrested the remaining three, as well.
Subsequently, Abu Zafor filed a case against the five policemen at the Uttara police station under Narcotics Control Act 2018.
