National daily Prothom Alo has been served a legal notice seeking Tk10 crore in compensation over the death of Dhaka Residential Model College student Naimul Abrar Rahat.
Supreme Court lawyer Faizullah Foyez sent the notice today on behalf of former student of the college Obayed Ahmed.
The notice has been directed towards Prothom Alo publisher and editor, the editor of Kishor Alo, the secretaries of information, education and power, energy and mineral resources.
However, the compensation has been asked to be paid by Prothom Alo's publisher and editor, the editor of Kishor Alo to Abrar's family within seven days.
The compensators have also been directed to provide an explanation regarding the incident within three days of receiving the notice.
Necessary legal steps will be taken if they fail to abide by the directives stated on the notice.
The notice also asked the aforementioned secretaries to ensure special security measures to avoid untoward situation during events at educational institutions in the future.
Abrar was a ninth-grader at the prominent educational institute and died after being electrocuted during an event of Kishor Alo, a supplement of Prothom Alo for young readers.
The college has opened an inquiry over the ninth-grader's death amid students' demonstrations.
