Legal notice sent to health minister, five others
They were also asked to reply to the notice within 24 hours
A legal notice has been sent to Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque and five others for not playing the national anthem at a programme to mark the National Mourning Day on August 15.
Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akanda sent the notice today asking why legal action should not be taken against them for not playing the national anthem to mark the death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
They were also asked to reply to the notice within 24 hours.
The notice was sent to Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque, Kazi Feroz Rashid MP, Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University Dr Mijanur Rahman, acting professor of Dhaka National Medical College Dr EKM Aminul Haque, Director of Dhaka National Medical College brig general (ret) Dr Iffat Ara and lecturer Dr Shaswata Dhar Samrat.
On August 28, a programme was arranged at Dhaka National Medical College to mark the national day of mourning. Minister Zahid Maleque was present there as a chief guest, the notice said.
Lawyer Yunus Ali Akanda was also present at the programme and wanted to say something regarding the national anthem. However, he was not given a chance to say anything regarding the matter, according to the notice.
They broke the law by not playing the national anthem to mark the national day of mourning. By doing so, they also showed disrespect to Bangabandhu, said the notice.
