High Court asks Wasa to ensure supply of pure water
“We need pure water and you have to provide it,” the HC bench asked WASA
The High Court (HC) on Wednesday ordered the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) to ensure supply of hundred percent pure drinking water.
The HC bench of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Khairul Alam came up with the directive during a hearing on a writ petition filed by advocate Tanvir Ahmed.
“We need pure water and you have to provide it,” the HC bench asked Wasa.
It also fixed July 30 to resume hearing on the petition.
Wasa's lawyer AM Masum and writ petitioner Tanvir Ahmed, a Supreme Court lawyer, attended the hearing.
Earlier on July 8, the HC ordered Dhaka Wasa to explain as to why its water was contaminated with bacteria.
According to a report by the Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Ministry, water supplied by four out of Wasa’s 10 MODS Zones and two out of its four source points is contaminated with harmful bacteria.
