Green Line Paribahan has paid another instalment of Tk5 lakh to Russell Sarkar, who lost a leg after being hit by the company's bus.
Defence lawyer Polash Chandra Ray handed over the cheque to Russell before the High Court bench of justices FRM Nazmul Ahsan and M Kamrul Kader on Monday.
The court said Green Line has to pay another Tk40 lakh in instalments of Tk5 lakh in the first week of every month.
Earlier on March 12, the High Court asked Green Line to pay Tk50 lakh as compensation to Russell.
Later on April 10, Green Line paid the first instalment of Tk5 lakh.
What happened to Russell?
Russell Sarkar, 23, a private car driver, lost his leg on April 28 after a luxury coach of Green Line Paribahan had hit the car he was driving from behind as it stood stationary on the slope of the Mayor Hanif Flyover at Dholaipar, prompting Russell to step out of the car to assess the damage.
When he signalled the bus not to drive away, bus driver Kabir Hossain, in an act that has drawn outrage for its sheer idiocy and callous disregard for a fellow human being, instead ran Russell over and fled the scene.
Upon being informed of the incident, police detained the bus driver near the National Press Club.
Russell’s left leg got severed from the thigh down in the incident.
