Facebook authorities to sue facebook.com.bd
Multiple legal notices had been issued to shut down the website, but facebook.com.bd was not closed
Facebook authorities will file a lawsuit against facebook.com.bd in a Bangladeshi court seeking $50,000 in compensation.
Facebook authorities have appointed Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Mokshedul Islam to fight this legal battle.
On Wednesday, Barrister Mokshedul Islam told reporters that the case filing process is underway.
"Facebook is the most widely used social media in the world. No one can open a website using this name. But a Bangladeshi company called A1 Software Limited has opened a local domain called facebook.com.bd. The domain is expected to be sold for $60 million," he said.
He added that they had sent multiple legal notices to the company asking it to shut down the website, but the website was not closed.
The Supreme Court lawyer continued, "I have received a 700-page document from the Facebook authorities. A compensation case will be filed in the lower court of Dhaka next week. Simultaneously, we also will ask the court to impose ban on the operation of the website to prevent fraudulent activities through it."
