Ex-law minister Anisul Huq, 9 others sued over 2014 murder in Brahmanbaria
A case has been filed against former law minister Anisul Huq and nine others on charges of killing a man, who was allegedly shot by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) during the Upazila Parishad polls in Brahmanbaria's Akhaura in 2014.
Bahar Miah, brother of the deceased Abdul Hadis, filed a petition with the Brahmanbaria Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court yesterday (15 September), Nurujjaman Laskar, his lawyer, told The Business Standard.
Judge Afrin Ahmed Happy ordered the officer-in-charge of Akhaura Police Station to register the case.
"The case was filed under the Speedy Trial Act," the lawyer added.
Notable accused in the case include Takjil Khalifa, general secretary of Akhaura Upazila Awami League, Major Ershad, then acting commander of the 12th Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh, Abul Kashem Bhuyan, former chairman of Akhaura Upazila Parishad and Forkan Ahmed Khalifa, former general secretary of Akhaura Land Port of C&F Agents Association.
Additionally, 100 to 200 unidentified individuals have also been accused in the case.
According to the case statement, on 23 March 2014, during the Akhaura Upazila Parishad election, Hadis was standing about 300 yards away from a polling station.
Later, the accused informed Anisul Huq and Takjil Khalifa about the presence of BNP workers and supporters near the polling station. They instructed the acting commander of the BGB to shoot anyone they saw.
As a result, a BGB member opened fire, fatally wounding Hadis Mia in the chest. He died on the spot.
