Eight families apply for guardianship of baby Gohin
So far eight families had applied for the legal guardianship of the abandoned infant
A Dhaka court on Tuesday passed an order to appoint a legal guardian for a baby girl rescued from a toilet at the Dhaka Shishu Hospital on May 14.
So far, eight families had applied for the legal guardianship of the abandoned infant, who has been named Gohin.
After hearing their plea, Family Court and Dhaka Second Additional Assistant Judge Safiya Sharmin spoke to three applicants’ family members and requested them to concede their adoption application, for the welfare of the child.
The court has fixed July 23 as the next date of hearing over the matter.
The girl has been staying at Chotomoni Nibash in Dhaka's Azimpur since May 14, when a family member of a patient admitted in the hospital found the newborn child lying on the floor in a toilet and informed the ward officials.
The ward master then notified the police and filed a general diary (GD) with Bijoy Nagar police station. The girl was later handed over to Chotomoni Nibash, a government shelter for lost and abandoned kids, to be taken care of until she is adopted.
