A Dhaka court on Sunday rejected a petition submitted for taking cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore in remand, arrested in connection with a case filed under Digital Security Act (DSA).
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim passed the order after today's hearing.
Earlier on 4 February, police filed a chargesheet against three people, including cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore and writer Mushtaq Ahmed, in the case.
On 5 May, 2020, CPC-1 warrant officer Abu Bakar Siddique of RAB-3 filed a case against 11 people under the DSA with Ramna Police Station.
Besides, 5-6 unidentified people were also accused.
They were charged with "spreading rumours and carrying out anti-government activities".
Swedish-Bangladeshi journalist Tasneem Khalil who runs Netra News, Hungary-based entrepreneur Zulkarnain Saer Khan, and US-based journalist Shahed Alam, were among others named in the case.
According to the FIR, Kishore was picked up on 5 May from his Kakrail home.
Recently, Sub-inspector Md Mohsin Sardar of Ramna Police Station pressed charges against three of the accused, dropping the names of eight others.
The three charged accused are-Kishore, Mushtaq and Didarul Islam Bhuiyan, an activist of a platform called 'Rastrachinta'.
Among them, Mushtaq died in Kashimpur Central Jail on Thursday.
