CJ forms 53 HC benches to conduct regular proceedings

Chief Justice (CJ) Syed Mahmud Chowdhury has formed 35 virtual and 18 actual (regular) High Court benches to conduct the proceedings at the apex court of the country.

Deputy Registrar (Administration and Justice) of the Supreme Court (SC), Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman Bhuiyan confirmed the matter in a circular issued in this regard on Monday.

Out of 35 virtual High Court benches, 24 division benches and 11 single benches have been formed. And out of 16 regular benches, 13 division benches and 5 single benches have been formed.

Earlier, on August 8, the full court meeting of the Supreme Court decided to conduct both virtual and physical courts in the High Court Division.

The decision was taken by the Chief Justice on the basis of the opinions provided by the judges present.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, only virtual trials have been conducted by the High Court since May 11 of this year.

On Monday, the country's highest court returned to normal routine with the formation of 18 regular benches.
