A Chattogram court has sentenced nine people to death for killing an expatriate in 2003.

Chattogram Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge Farzana Akhter handed down the verdict at noon.

The convicts are Leda Nasir, Babul, Nurul Islam, Jobayer, Didiar, Abu Bakkar Prokas Basik, Jangu, Ismail and Shahin. The convicts, except Shahin, are on the run.

The murder took place in Fatikchhari Upazila of Chattogram on 1 January 2003.

According to the case statement, the accused killed expatriate Nesar Ahmed when he asked for his due of Tk5,000 to Leda Nasir.

The next day, Naser's wife Morsheda Akhter filed a murder case with Fatikchhari Police Station against eight people in this connection. In the meantime, one of the accused died.

After examining the testimony of 10 witnesses, the judge pronounced the verdict today.
