57,917 released on bail through virtual lower courts
The government enacted the Information Technology Use Act-2020 for conducting trial virtually using information technology without physical presence to prevent Covid-19 infection
A total of 57,917 accused have been released on bail in the last 36 working days through virtual hearing in lower courts and tribunals across the country.
Supreme Court spokesman and special officer Mohammad Saifur Rahman told BSS today that in 36 working days from 12 April to 6 June, bail applications in 1, 12,181 cases were disposed of through virtual hearings in lower courts and tribunals across the country, while 57,917 accused were released on bail.
He said among the persons, who got bail, a number of 911 were juveniles.
The hearing of bail pleas' in 3,169 criminal cases in lower courts and tribunals across the country were made yesterday and 1,546 accused were released getting bail.
The government enacted the Information Technology Use Act-2020 for conducting trial virtually using information technology without physical presence to prevent Covid-19 infection.
In this perspective, the trial virtually began in May, 2020 in the first phase in the lower court.
In March of this year, due to rise in Covid-19 infection, the trial also resumed in virtual presence. This will continue till further orders, the Supreme Court administration said.
