5 Gaibandha war criminals to walk gallows
International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced five razakars of Gaibandha to death for their involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
The 3-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam, passed the verdict today.
The death convicts are-- Md Ronju Mia, 71, Abdul Jabbar, 86, Md Jafijar Rahman Khoka, 64, Md Abdul Wahed Mondol, 62 and Md Momtaz Ali Bepari, 68, all hailed from Gaibandha's Nandina and Fulbari villages and were active members of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh.
Of the accused, Ronju Mia is behind the bars, another accused Ajgar Hossen Khan died while the rest four men are absconding.
The tribunal also directed the home secretary and inspector general of police to take necessary steps including taking help from Interpol to arrest the fugitives.
All the accused were framed with the charges including genocide, rape, kidnapping, assault, looting and torching houses, forcing Hindus to convert to Islam or leave the country.
