A Dhaka court has sentenced two drivers and one helper of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan to life imprisonment in a case filed over deaths of college students Abdul Karim Rajib and Dia Khanam Mim in a road accident in the capital's Airport Road area in July last year.
The life timers are- drivers Masum Billah and Jubayer Sumon, and helper Asad Kazi.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayes issued arrest warrant against fugitive helper Asad.
The court also acquitted bus owner Jahangir Alam and another helper Enayet Hossain from the charge.
On July 29 in 2018, Dia and Rajib, students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College, were killed when a Jabal-e-Noor bus ploughed through a crowd while competing with another bus of the same company in front of the Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road.
The accident sparked countrywide students protest demanding justice for their fellows and road safety.
Dia's father Jahangir Alam filed a case with Cantonment Police Station.
Earlier, the court examined 37 witnesses including investigation officer (IO) Qazi Shariful Islam of the total 41 witnesses.
Detective Branch of Police submitted a charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court in Dhaka against six persons on September 6.
