Fifty leaders and activists of BNP have been sentenced to different jail terms in a case filed over the attack on the motorcade of then leader of the opposition and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Satkhira in 2002.
Satkhira Chief Judicial Magistrate court passed the order on Thursday morning.
On 30 August, 2002, Sheikh Hasina came to visit the wife of a freedom fighter, who was raped and was admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
On their way back to Dhaka from the hospital, BNP leaders and activists attacked Sheikh Hasina's convoy at around 11:30 pm when they reached BNP's party office in Satkhira's Kalaroa Upazila.
The motorcade was also shot at during the incident. Former MP Mujibur Rahman and several journalists were injured in the attack.
Freedom Fighter Commander of Kalaroa Upazila Moslem Uddin filed a case in this regard.
Kalaroa police handed over a chargesheet to the court accusing 50 people in the case.
