The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two cases against Dr Md Abu Sufian, principal of the Sheikh Hasina Medical College in Habiganj, and two suppliers over embezzlement of more than Tk3 crore in purchasing equipment.

ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told The Business Standard that two separate cases were filed at the ACC's Dhaka-1 integrated district office on Sunday.

According to the first information report (FIR), the principal in collaboration with supplier Afsana Islam Kakoli misappropriated more than Tk1.29 crore by over-pricing of equipment.

Sahidur Rahman, deputy assistant director of ACC, filed the case.

In the same manner, more than Tk2.14 crore was embezzled in collaboration with supplier SM Nazrul Islam.

Ferdous Rahman, deputy assistant director of the graft watchdog, filed the case in this connection.

In a separate development, the ACC filed two other cases against Md Ramjan Ali, project director and chief engineer of the Khulna-Mongla Rail Project, and his wife Aga Dilruba Parvin Ilora.

ACC Deputy Director Abu Bakar Siddique filed both the cases.

According to the FIR, Ramjan Ali amassed wealth worth nearly Tk2.44 crore illegally. His wife accumulated assets worth more than Tk1.85 crore beyond their known sources of income.
