Ex-Rajshahi Education Board chairman among 14 sued for embezzlement

A case has been filed against a total of 14 employees and contractors, including former chairman of Rajshahi Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Professor Abul Kalam Azad and former secretary Md Anarul Haque on allegation of money embezzlement.
The Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) Rajshahi integrated district office Assistant Director Al-Amin filed the case on Wednesday on the charge of embezzling a total of Tk18.44 lakh by not implementing the repair, renovation and construction work of various installations of the board properly, but by showing the implementation of the work.
The other accused in the case include Selina Parveen, deputy secretary (store) of Rajshahi Education Board; Golam Sarwar, security officer, Shawkat Ali, contractor, Israfil Hossain and Nesar Uddin Ahmed, deputy secretary (store) among others.
The accused in the case committed criminal misconduct and breach of trust by abusing power with the help of each other for malicious gain for personal gain, said Al-Amin.
He added that the accused have committed a punishable offense by embezzling a total of Tk18.44 lakh by showing the execution of the work.
