The local government division, in a circular issued on Thursday, suspended UP chairman and 2 members from Shariatpur's Gosairhat upazila for their involvement in embezzling government rice.

The suspended are -- BM Nasir Uddin Swapan, chairman of Kuchaipotti UP in Shariatpur's Gosairhat upazila. Mofassel Bepary, member from ward no. 3, and Shamim Bepary, member from ward no. 9 of the same union. 

Earlier on April 26, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against them for allegedly embezzling government rice.

According to the case statement, Chairman Nasir Uddin along with two members of the UP embezzled 1,590 kilograms of rice meant for distribution among fishermen under the government's vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme.
