Information Minister Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday said that vested quarters -- both local and foreign ones --are engaged in a conspiracy against the country by spreading false and fabricated information.

"Many do not like that the country is moving forward; they cannot tolerate the development of the country. That is why domestic and foreign groups are conspiring against the country by spreading false, untrue and cut-paste information, "he said.

He said this at a discussion titled 'Bangabandhu and Bangladesh in the spirit of Ekushey' arranged by Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad at Nasrul Hamid Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU).

The minister said, "Even after the country became independent, all these lies and rumours were spread against Bangabandhu. Later they (conspirators) killed Bangabandhu and his family. Now they are playing a new game."

Hasan said that the Jewish son-in-law of a well-known lawyer, members of Jamaat-e-Islami and fugitives absconding from the country are also involved in these conspiracies.

He further said that the aforementioned circle, who also tried to save the war criminals, had always been conspiring against the country.

"That group has now hired people with their finances and conspired against the country by contacting various international media," he added,

Hasan Mahmud said the people of the country are alert and vigilant.

The joint general secretary of the Awami League also commented that the foundation of this government led by the Awami League is strong up to the grassroots.
