Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has provided food, and other necessities, to 22,000 families in Pirgachha-Kaunia upazila. The distribution of Eid gifts to 1,000 more families is ongoing.
Further, Eid gifts were distributed to various organisations in Rangpur and to the destitute.
In addition to the government-allocated rice, Tipu Munshi has provided: rice, flour, potatoes, pulses, oil, salt, and soap from his own funds. All these food items were distributed among the people of Kaunia and Pirgachha upazilas. Therefore, unemployed, destitute, helpless and extremely poor people – of the two upazilas – are getting food aid.
The poor people of the Pirgachha and Kaunia upazilas have come under the cash benefits programme of the Prime Minister. This should greatly alleviate the suffering among the people.
Beneficiaries include: agricultural workers, day labourers, rickshaw pullers, van drivers, construction workers, shop workers, workers in various businesses run by private enterprises, poultry farm workers, handicraft artisans, as well as bus, truck and transportation workers.
Personally funded by Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi: 1,10,000 kilogrammes of rice worth Tk39,60,000; 44,000 kilogrammes of flour worth Tk11,00,000; 66,000 kilogrammes of potatoes worth Tk13,20,000; 22,000 litres of oil worth Tk18,70,000; 44,000 kilogrammes of pulses worth Tk35,20,000; 11,000 kilogrammes of salt worth Tk2,86,000; and 22,000 soaps worth Tk2,20,000 have been distributed among 23,000 families.
Some beneficiaries in the area said they are very lucky to have a compassionate person like Tipu Munshi – a freedom fighter. They say in case of danger, they want him by their side. They are grateful to him, and believe he is their guardian.
In addition to government relief rice, Tipu Munshi is continuing to provide food assistance to needy families using his own funds. The way the aid and cooperation are going on, there should be no food or humanitarian problems for the people of the area.
The list naming beneficiaries has been finalised after careful scrutiny of the Prime Minister's cash financial benefits programme. Special care has been taken to ensure that deserving recipients are not dropped from the list.
