The Chinese embassy in Dhaka will not take the body of Chinese businessman Gao Jianhui until the mystery behind his murder unfolds.
A three-member delegation from the Chinese embassy, led by the deputy chief of mission, made their stance clear when they met with Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam on Sunday, said Jian Sha Hang, a friend of Jianhui who filed a case over the murder.
Meanwhile, police suspect that there might be two factors behind the murder of Jianhui. Firstly, criminals might have killed him to snatch cash from his possession, because they knew Gao Jianhui always used to keep huge amount of cash in his flat or carried them with him. Secondly, Gao might have been killed because of business feud.
Jianhui was murdered four days ago, but police are yet to find a clue to solve the case.
Police said Gao Jianhui was active on mobile phone on the day he was murdered. Police collected some evidence through 'WeChat' messaging app. He was chatting until 5:26pm on Tuesday. After that, he stopped responding to calls.
An investigation officer said it is a planned murder. The killers were acquaintances of Jianhui and they regularly visited his flat. The killers also knew that the CTTV cameras of the house were out of order.
"Several people were interrogated but we care yet to find any clue to solve the murder case. We are trying to solve the case," said Moshiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
DB sources said Jianhui was a stone supplier to the Padma Bridge project and Payra Port. He had many partners in Bangladesh and China.
One of his Bangladeshi business associates misappropriated around Tk4 crore from him. He used to get money from several local businessmen. Some of them also tried to steal his money. Keeping these factors in mind, police interrogated some people.
Police recovered the body of Gao Jianhui, 47, from Dhaka's Banani area on Wednesday afternoon. Jianhui's body was found buried in the backyard of his home.
