The Chattogram port customs house has organised the biggest auction in its history by auctioning off 367 containers full of goods and 4 vehicles.

The auction of these products, which have been stuck in Chittagong port for a long time, was held simultaneously at the auction hall of Chittagong Customs House and Dhaka VAT Commissionerate office on Tuesday (June 30) at 2.30 pm.

Deputy Commissioner (Auction) of Chattogram Customs House Farid Al-Mamun said "In this year's auction, 367 containers of 175 catalogs and 4 vehicles of Mercedes Benz, Toyota Vanguard, Toyota Harrier and Aqua Hybrid brand were auctioned."

"328 tenders were submitted for the auction. Of these, 300 tenders were received in Chittagong and 28 in Dhaka. The highest bidder will be determined according to the catalog by checking and sorting them later", added Farid.

Farid also said that the auctioned-off products include 20 containers of fabrics, 20 containers of apples, 6 containers of onions, 6 containers of buffalo meat, 26 containers of animal feed, 9 containers of salt, 129 containers of Calcium Carbonate, 15 containers of stone, 25 containers of iron pipe and various other goods.

According to sources at Chittagong Custom House, the customs house auctions off the goods that importers do not take delivery of from Chittagong port through various processes.

An auction is organised by the customs house every month to auction off these products, and the last auction was held on May 13 this year.

Previously, around 250-300 containers were auctioned off by the customs house, but this time a house record of 367 containers came up for auction.

There were 7,700 TUES (Twenty Fit Equivalent Units) container goods awaiting auction at Chittagong Port. In addition, there were 5,000 tonnes of bulk cargo products and 382 cars eligible for auction.
