The firefighters have recovered a charred body of a female worker from the factory's washroom on Sunday morning after fire gutted the shoe factory in Ulusara area of Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur yesterday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Golapi Akhter, 30, wife of Ainul Islam, who used to work as a helper in the factory of FB Footwear.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-charge of Kaliakair Police Station Monowar Hossain Chowdhury said that firefighters recovered the burnt body from the washroom during a search of the factory in the morning.

"The body has been sent to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy," he added.

"Presumably, the victim got trapped inside the washroom when the fire broke out," Kaliakair Fire Service Station Officer Kabirul Islam said, adding, "The shoe factory was a one-storey building, where shoe-making chemicals were also stored."

Earlier on October 10, the fire broke out in the factory of FB Footwear Limited at around 4 pm. Seven units from different local fire stations brought the fire under control in five hours.
