BNP demands fresh polls in Dhaka city
Fakhrul also demanded cancellation of the election results
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today demanded re-election to Dhaka North and South City Corporations.
In a post-election press briefing today, Fakhrul also demanded cancellation of the election results saying, "The city election has proved that people have no faith on this government and election commission."
"The electoral system has been destroyed in a planned way in order to establish a one-party rule in the country," Mirza Fakhrul alleged further.
Earlier, ruling Awami League mayoral candidates in the twin elections to Dhaka North and South City Corporation won in big margins to their BNP rivals in February 1 polls.
The first ever election with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), however, had a lukewarm response from voters. Voter turnout was the lowest in a decade.
