The Bangladesh Imam Ulama Coordination Unity Council (BIUCUC) on Thursday called on to resist the 'assassins' of former Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam Shah Ahmad Shafi and termed as 'fake Hefazat'.

They made the call at a human-chain protest demanding the arrest of the killers of Shah Ahmad Shafi of Hefazat in front of the National Press Club.

The organisation's chairman, Maulana Ismail Hossain claimed that Azgar Ali Hospital is involved in the murder of Ahmad Shafi and said, "The doctors there killed Shafi in exchange for a large sum of money."

He also said that the matter should be investigated and the culprits should be brought under the law.

Ismail also said that a racket of those who have got positions in the new committee of Hefazat is aligned with Jamaat-e-Islam and BNP. "They are fake Hefazat. We will resist them on the street. If we want to carry out programme anywhere in the country, we will also take to the streets," he added.

"The said racket, including Hefazat Secretary General Mamunul Haque, is inciting anti-sculpture activities to destabilise the country," said Ismail.

The protesters also alleged that an attempt has been made to put the students of Qawmi Madrasa in confrontation with the government.

They urged to immediately identify and punish those involved.
