Barishal school boy invents ultra-modern Robot Robin
Answering almost any question in minutes the robot can say who created him and the names of his country, president and prime minister
Robot Robin, the brainchild of school student Shuvo Karmaker in Barishal, is an ultra-modern robot who speaks both Bangla and English, answers questions from a database and provides a wide variety of important information.
Answering almost any question in minutes, the robot can say who created him, and the names of his country, president and prime minister.
Robot Robin can provide information regarding the amount of insecticide a farmer needs to use in his farm and the schedule for using them. He can provide any information regarding medicine and education.
The robot can inform the fire service if a fire breaks out in the vicinity, and the firefighters will see his location on the Google map.
Shuvo is a resident of Kalupara village under Agailjhara upazila. He was born to businessman Santosh Karmaker and homemaker Dipti Karmaker.
Shuvo, the eldest of two brothers, is a science group student in class 10 at Government Gaila Model School.
He loves to participate in science fairs and has won several prizes in different competitions held across the country.
One day, Shuvo thought of making a robot, but it would be more than a run-of-the-mill automaton. He started working on his project from May 2018.
Shuvo completed primary work on the robot in January this year, and named him Robin.
Speaking to The Business Standard, the young scientist said, "I named my robot after the superhero of an American cartoon show. Robin was created using information gathered from the internet and viewing related videos from YouTube.
"I have been working to improve Robin. At present, he does not have sight, but in the future he will be able to see everything and recognise any person after viewing them once. He will also be able to solve various problems."
Shuvo added that the biggest thing about this robot is that he is capable of learning many things by himself.
"Robin does not require any coding, which means he has mastered some techniques of self-learning."
Complementing the boy genius, Agailjhara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Bipul Chandra Das said, "Shuvo is not only the pride of the upazila, but he also brought honour to the whole Barishal district.
"His success in making a robot capable of speaking in both Bangla and English is a success for the whole country. The upazila administration will offer him full cooperation so that he can succeed in his endeavors."
