Bamna Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Ilias Ali Talukder has been withdrawn and attached to the Barguna police line for slapping an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) while foiling a human chain programme formed demanding the release of Shahedul Islam Sifat.

The decision has been made following the recommendation of the investigation committee formed over the incident, said Md Mofizul Islam, additional superintendent of Barguna police and head of the probe body.

Teknaf OC withdrawn over Sinha killing

Mafijul said, "The committee found the authenticity of the allegation of slapping the ASI and recommended departmental action against the OC, including withdrawal of him from the police station."

On August 8, OC Ilius slapped the ASI while on duty during the human chain demanding the release of Sifat, who was arrested following the killing of retired army major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in police firing in Cox's Bazar. Later video footage of the incident went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the ASI has been posted to the Special Detective Branch (DSB) of Barguna district police.

Mofizul Islam said that the public harassment ruined the conducive environment for the ASI to work in Bamna police station. For this reason, to give him a beautiful working environment, he was withdrawn to the police line in Barguna and later posted to the Special Detective Branch of police.

On August 10, the ASI, who was assaulted by Bamna Police Station OC, was withdrawn from the police station and attached to the Barguna police line.
