Bangladesh cricket team members and coaching staff on Thursday received Covid-19 vaccine in the capital's Kurmitola General Hospital.

According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), a total of 36 cricketers will be vaccinated in two days.

The cricketers and staff received the jabs at around 11:30 am as part of the "Surokkha" vaccine app inauguration and demonstration event. Soumya Sarkar and Tamim Iqbal were the initial receivers for the team.

Earlier, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Nazmul Hassan Papon in his speech as the special guest lauded the bravery of the Prime Minister for investing in Covid-19 vaccine.

"In a country like ours, investing over Tk 1,000 crore for vaccines is a bold step. It is only possible for the daughter of Bangabandhu. Bangladesh will remember him for this," he said.

"In many countries of the world 10-20% of the population are not vaccinated but in Bangladesh, everything is going well," he added.

Health Secretary Abdul Mannan said the country in the last 10 days has vaccinated over 10 lakh citizens.
