Bangladesh has the third most powerful military in South Asia, according to a latest ranking that measures the military strength of countries internationally.
India and Pakistan are ahead of Bangladesh on the Global Firepower's 2019 Military Strength Ranking.
Among the South Asian countries, India's military is the strongest while Pakistan has the second most powerful army.
Bhutan has the least powerful army in the region while the military strength of Nepal and Sri Lanka is the second- and third-least respectively.
The Maldives was not included on the index.
Bangladesh advances 11 positions
With a PwrIndx rating of 0.7156, Bangladesh ranked 45th out of 137 countries on the Global Firepower index.
PwrIndx (PowerIndex) score is used to calculate the final ranking of a country on the Global Firepower index. The perfect PwrIndx score is 0.0000, which the Global Firepower says is realistically unattainable.
Bangladesh also leaped 11 positions on the 2019 index. On the previous index, the country ranked 56th.
Even though Bangladesh saw its rank improve on the latest index, its total military personnel (1.60 lakh) and defence budget ($1.59 billion) have remained the same, according to the Global Firepower.
The ranking is based on each nation's potential war-making capability across land, sea and air fought with conventional weapons.
It assesses the diversity of each country's weapons and pays particular attention to their available manpower. Geography, logistical capacity, available natural resources, and the status of local industry are also considered.

The United States topped the index with PwrIndx rating at 0.0615.
It is followed by Russia (0.0639), the largest country in the world, and China (0.0673), which has the world's largest population.
France, the United Kingdom and Germany are the three European countries that are among the top 10 nations on the index.
