The municipal election of Rangpur's Badarganj municipality is being held after 22 years.
The municipal mayoral position was held by former mayor Uttam Kumar Saha for 22 years.
Voting has started from 9 am on Sunday and will go on till 5 pm.
Law enforcers including Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Ansar have been deployed to avoid any untoward situation in the voting process.
Awami League's candidate Ahasanul Haque Chowdhury alias Tutul, BNP's Firoz Shah, Islami Andolan's Saddam Hossain and independent candidate Badarganj Women's Degree College Assistant Professor Azizul Haque are contesting for the mayor post.
After declaring Badarganj a municipality in 1999, Uttam Kumar Saha, president of the Municipal Awami League, was appointed as the administrator.
He was later elected mayor by direct popular vote for four terms.
Due to illness, Uttam Kumar Saha refrained from being a candidate this time.
So whoever wins this election, Badarganj is getting a new mayor after 22 years.
