As soon as the news of the arrest spread in the area, Kala Shamsu’s men attacked police to snatch him

A young man was killed and three police officials were injured in gunfight when a group of men tried to snatch an arrested drug accused man from police custody in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Khorshed Alam, 22, son of Haji Golam Hossain.

Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station claimed they arrested suspected drug trader Shamsul Alam alias Kala Shamsu, brother of Khorshed, from Habir Chora area of Teknaf Sadar union at night.

As soon as the news of the arrest spread in the area, Kala Shamsu's men attacked police to snatch him around 10:30pm and opened fire, forcing them to fire for self-defence, triggering the skirmish, claimed the OC.

Khorshed, who was also accused in money laundering and drug cases, sustained bullet and died on the spot.

The body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Three police were also injured in the gunfight, said the police official.

The injured are- Assistant sub-inspector Ratan Mia, Constable Shariful and Balram.

The Yaba trader Kala Shamsu was also arrested in the incident. Kala Shamsu is accused in several cases including drug case, said the OC.
