Attacks on Faridpur AL president’s house was ‘preplanned’
Police have pressed charges against Barkat and Rubel brothers and 47 others
Police have pressed charges against 49 people, including Faridpur city unit Awami League (AL) General Secretary Sajjad Hossain Barkat and his brother district press club former president Imtiaz Hasan Rubel, for launching attacks on the house of district AL President Subal Chandra Saha.
Kotwali police on Saturday filed the charge sheet, which included the name of AHM Fouad, APS of former minister and Faridpur-3 (Sadar) MP Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, with the district's court.
According to the charge sheet, the city units of Awami League and Juba League jointly carried out planned attacks to establish their dominance on the district Awami League.
Among the 49 accused, 25 including Barkat and Rubel are already behind bars, while Fouad, former councillor Trisha Saha and 22 other accused are on the run.
Barkat, Rubel, and 19 other arrestees have already pleaded guilty in court.
Kotwali Police Station Inspector (Operation) Shahidul Islam, who carried out the investigation, has confirmed that the charge sheet was filed with the Faridpur court last Saturday.
On 16 May 2020, two attacks took place at the Jamuna Bhaban, the home of Awami League President Subal Saha, at Mollah Bari in the Goalchamat area of the city.
Subal Chandra Saha filed a case with Kotwali Police Station in Faridpur 48 hours after the incident. The case has changed the Awami political scenario in Faridpur.
