Two police members of Bamna Police Station, Barguna have been withdrawn after their pictures of gambling inside the police station went viral on social media.

The two withdrawn policemen- Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Humayun and Constable Sumon Mahmud- were attached to the district police lines on May 23 after withdrawing them.

ASI Humayun claimed, "We played among ourselves in the barracks in a mischievous manner a long time ago. One of our own secretly took pictures at that time and it has now been revealed."

However, Obaidul Kabir Dulal, president of Bamna Upazila Citizens Committee, said, "Playing cards for money in the police station is unjust. Officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station cannot avoid the responsibility of this incident."

"Although the accused policemen claimed the incident happened long ago, it was clear from the pictures that it was very recent as a hand sanitiser is seen beside them while playing cards," he added.

OC of the police station SS Masuduzzaman said, "Senior police officials have already started an investigation in this regard. Action will be taken after the investigation."
