Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, minister of agriculture, recently said that to compete in the international market, international standards must be maintained for agricultural products.
He made the observation as chief guest at an online exchange of views with vegetable and fruit exporters from the conference room of the ministry at the secretariat on Sunday.
The Minister said that to expedite the export of agricultural products and advance the sector, all obstacles in the export process will be identified and solved.
"Initiatives will be taken to accelerate the opening of accredited labs for quality control as there is no alternative to maintaining international standards to survive competition," he added.
The agriculture minister said the government's goal in agriculture is to make the sector profitable through agricultural processing and commercialization. As such, there should be more exports of agricultural products.
"We are thinking of ways to set up processing industries and provide more support to entrepreneurs. The government is giving utmost importance to how best agricultural products can reach domestic markets as well as international markets," the Minister added.
