The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a charge sheet against nine people, including former Satkhira civil surgeon Dr Touhidur Rahman in an embezzling case of Tk 16.71 crore.

The charge sheet has been submitted to the concerned court today by the Deputy Director of the ACC Head Office and the investigating officer of the case Md Jahangir Alam after approval of the commission.

The accused are: (1) Dr Touhidur Rahman, Proctor Civil Surgeon, Satkhira, (2) Md Anwar Hossain, Accountant, Civil Surgeon's Office, Satkhira, (3) AKM Fazlul Haque, Accountant, Civil Surgeon's Office, Satkhira, (4) Md Zaher Uddin Sarkar, Proprietor Messrs Bengal Scientific and Surgical Co, Topkhana Road, Segunbagicha, Dhaka, (5) Md Abdur Sattar Sarkar, Proprietor / Partner, Messrs Mercantile Trade International, Naya Paltan, Dhaka (6) Md Ahsan Habib, Proprietor / Partner, Messrs Mercantile Trade International, Naya Paltan, Dhaka (7) Md Ashadur Rahman, Owner, Universal Trade Corporation, Purana Paltan, Dhaka, (8) Kazi Abu Bakar Siddique, Messrs Mercantile Trade International, Naya Paltan, Dhaka and (9) AHM Abdus Quddus, Assistant Engineer (now retired), Nimue & TC, Mohakhali, Dhaka.

The investigation alleges that the accused conspired with each other for malicious purposes, misused power for fraud and forgery in the name of purchase and supply of medical goods.

They took out three bills amounting to a total of Tk 16,71,32,222 from the Accounts Office, Satkhira and embezzled by causing financial loss to the government.

On July 9, 2019, the then Deputy Assistant Director of the ACC, now Assistant Director Md Jalal Uddin, filed the case against the accused at the Khulna Integrated District Office with the commission's approval.
