Independent candidates Khokan Chowdhury and Tanjur Abedin’s candidacy for mayoral race has been scrapped

The Election Commission has declared valid the nominations of seven mayoral candidates including Awami League's Rezaul Karim and BNP's Dr Shahadat Hossain to compete in the upcoming polls in Chattogram City Corporation.

Returning Officer Muhammad Hasanuzzaman confirmed the matter after checking their nomination papers at district Shilpokola Academy in Chattogram today.

Solaiman Alam Sheth of Jatiya Party, Wahed Murad of Islamic Front Bangladesh, MA Matin of Bangladesh Islami Front, Islami Andolan Bangladesh nominee Jannatul Islam, and Abul Majur of Peoples Party have also been cleared to contest in the election.

However, independent candidates Khokan Chowdhury and Tanjur Abedin's candidacy for mayoral race has been scrapped, as they could not filled up the nomination form correctly. 

The Chattogram City Corporation election scheduled to be held on March 29.
