Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners-Workers Coordination Council  on Sunday called a 48-hour strike across the country to press home their 9-point demand including amendment to the Road Transport Act.

The strike will be observed on October 12 and 13.

The transport organization announced the program through a press release on Sunday.

Earlier, Osman Ali, central General Secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, called the strike at a meeting at the Rajbari Community Center near Karnafuli Shah Amanat Bridge in the city on Saturday.

During the meeting, Osman Ali said the government has implemented the Road Transport Act-2018 without considering the interest of transport owners and workers. Due to this law, the transport owners and workers are facing financial losses, he said.

He said the organization will place a nine-point demand to the government including one to stop the anarchy in the transport sector by amending the law by December 31

If the demand is not met, a 96-hour strike will be called and then an indefinite strike will be called.

Osman Ali said if the workers do not drive truck-covered vans, prime movers, mini-trucks and lorries, transportation of all types of garments, food and various goods from different ports and places of the country including Chattogram port will be stopped.
