4 Barisal IHT students suspended over torturing junior student

The Barisal Institute of Health Technology (IHT) has suspended four students for different periods on Wednesday for torturing a junior student in the name of ragging.

The suspended students were also expelled from the hostels for torturing Md Salauddin, a first year student of the Dental Department at the Barisal IHT.

The academic council members took the decision following a meeting on Wednesday.

The suspened students are Sagor Biswas Devjit and Saikat Das from the Radiology Department, and Piash Chandra Kuri and Md Emon from the Dental Department. All of them are second-year students.

Several students at the hostel said the suspended students had formed a group and harassed others.

Principal of the Barisal Institute of Health Technology Dr Saiful Islam said the investigating committee has found the students guilty as charged.

Earlier, on October 25, Ameena Khatun (19), a second-year student of the Department of Physiotherapy at the Barisal IHT, tried to commit suicide due to excessive ragging .
