3,200 sacks of govt rice recovered, one jailed
Rice mill manager was jailed for 6 months
A mobile court has recovered some 3,200 sacks of rice of the Food Ministry from a rice mill at Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation industrial area in Bhola.
The court led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Kawsar Hossain seized the rice while those were illegally being packed for selling under the brand name of Nur Jahan at Khan Brothers' rice mill.
The mill manager Motaleb was sentenced to 6-month imprisonment along with a fine of Tk1 lakh. The mobile court also sealed off the rice mill.
Kawsar Hossain said, "There was an allegation that the mill owner used to sell government rice after mixing those with different rice and marketed under the name of Nur Jahan brand."
