Some 281 leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam have been sued following a clash with police at Chandona Chowrasta in Gazipur on Friday afternoon.

Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP)' Bason Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Md Kamrul Faruk, said the case was filed with the police station on charges of preventing police from discharging duties and carrying out vandalism.

Of the accused, 31 names of Hefazat men were mentioned and over 200-250 were unnamed.

Police also arrested 21 of the accused from the spot during the clash. At least eight policemen were injured during the clash, the OC added.

Before the clash, the Hefazat activists were trying to block the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway as part of their scheduled programme on Friday afternoon.

The leaders and activists carried out an attack on police personnel when the police reached the spot, triggering a clash. The clash left some 15 people injured, including policemen.
