Two suspected yaba traders were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Noyabazar hill area of Teknaf upazila on early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Sohel Miah, 27, son of Sobbir Ahmed and Nur Hafiz, 32, son of Din Mohammad.

Rapid Action Battalion arrested the duo with 8,00,000 yaba pills on Friday night and handed them over to police, said Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station.

According to him, police took the men with them during a drive to arrest their associates. When the police team reached the spot, criminals opened fire and tried to snatch the yaba traders.

The two men sustained gunshot wounds in the ensuing skirmish. They were taken to a local hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

Police also recovered 95,000 piece yaba pills, six pistols and 18 bullets from the spot.
