National Board of Revenue (NBR) has set atarget to register 1.5 lakh new VAT payers to raise the tally to 3 lakh in Mujib Year.

To this end, NBR already directed its 12 VAT Commissionerates to take necessary measures to bring new VAT payers under the tally marking the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said officials.

"We've started survey to identify new and eligible VAT payers after getting directive from the NBR," said Md Zakir Hossain, Commissioner of Jashore VAT Commissionerate.

He said they are trying to motivate the businessmen, who have not yet completed VAT registration.

Mentioning that NBR has given specific target to each VAT Commissionerate, Zakir said Jashore Commissionerate has to enroll 5,000 new VAT payers.

At this moment, the country has 1.5 lakh registered VAT payers.
